Bathmat Mania

In our rental apartment, the bathroom is nicer than any one we have lived with before:  marble, high ceiling, fixtures that work.  The towels are luscious - thick and large.  But the bathmat that came with the digs is one of those pathetic thin ones that looks like an old dishtowel.
As we walked home one night, we couldn't take it any longer:  our feet needed some plush post-shower!  So we popped into the local home decor store, and left with a $30 white bath mat as thick as a New York strip steak.
Did this moment of irrational exuberance make a difference?  You bet!  It is amazing how much it changes the experience of taking a shower to step out onto something really comfortable.  It's one of those times when a small touch makes an enormous difference.
Remembering all five senses - not just sight but touch, smell, taste, and sound - can pivot how we interact with our homes.  When you are out of budget or time and need a lift, run down the list of the five senses. You may be one plush bathmat away from happiniess?

Here are two great bathmats, one from Crate & Barrel:   http://www.crateandbarrel.com/bed-and-bath/bath-rugs/reversible-stone-bath-rug/s655221 , the other from Garnet Hill: http://www.garnethill.com/lilly-pulitzer-26-23174-3b-chinoiserie-bath-rug/bedding-home/bath/bath-rugs/129475

I call it Mellow Yellow...

Happy Valentines day everyone. I suppose you are sick of the red and pink that you are probably seeing all day today? Here is our take on romance. Cheerful yet soft yellow, cool calming gray and crisp whites: what could be more perfect? I call it mellow yellow, and it’s one of my favorite color schemes for a few reasons. It’s very feminine and romantic without being pink which means convincing the man in your life will not include bribes or begging. It could work for any age, from nursery to grandma’s room. It’s extremely fresh and fun, and best of all it makes you feel like you’re in spring when there’s 18” of snow outside.

We found this fabulous color inspiration on Décor Pad and we couldn’t help but use it for this week’s color inspiration. And although I’m obsessed with the color, the room was feeling rather flat due to the lack of textures. We found some fabulous finds to consider if you want to get this look.

This beautiful teardrop lamp from West Elm will add some shine and glamour to the space- consider getting one for each side table. If you are blessed with a spacious room, go for this fabulous yellow gerber print slipper chair from Target- if not, go for a yellow throw pillow with a fun pattern. Next to your chair or bed this amazing bubble table from West Elm will add wonderful texture.  Keep your feet cozy with this area rug at Burke Décor - we just love the simple yet sophisticated pattern. Finally, choose a casual comforter with texture that will wow. Shown in slate and white, this organic pintuck duvet from West Elm is pure perfection. Either color will work well depending on your lifestyle. I personally would choose slate because I know between my husband and my dog; the white would be tainted quickly. And finally, the oh so important wall colors. Choose one of these fabulous yellows for the walls and don’t forget the fifth wall! Go for this amazing gray on your ceiling. Ask for flat paint for the walls and do a semi-gloss bright white for trim and doors.

There you have it- our color scheme of the week! Get the look yourself or check out our Room Juice packages for a custom solution made just for you within any budget!
