"Spring" your space with a fun floral!

Today here in fabulous NYC it’s snowing once again! We’re in the mood for spring. And since it’s only 26 days away, we found this beautiful floral spring floral duvet cover from West Elm http://www.westelm.com/products/spring-floral-duvet-and-shams-b593/?pkey=call-bedding that inspired our color scheme of the week.

This is not your typical floral- it’s modern, fresh and fun and it screams spring! We love the combination of colors shown below on our inspiration board. The punchy blue is fabulous on the walls if you’re into bold. To punch it up, add some green/yellow accessories and some dark gray accessories. If you have space in your room for a chair, go for this rocker from CB2 http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=106&f=5936&fromLocation=search. Do a gray cube nightstand on either side of your bed- these are a great and affordable option from Crate & Barrel http://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/accent-tables/mimic-smoke-cube/s666923. On the tables, these green-yellow lamps from CB2 will bring back that punch of color http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=320&f=5599&fromLocation=search. And finally, for a little bit of contrast on the bed we love these throw pillows from Crate & Barrel http://www.crateandbarrel.com/decorating-and-accessories/decorative-pillows/hayward-slate-18%22-pillow/s110984.

Don’t be afraid to go for a color scheme like this one that combines multiple colors. It is fresh and versatile. Going bold as we suggested is a breeze by picking up a few of the colors and it is also simple to tone it down and go more neutral. To do this, choose the light dusty gray for your walls and go with accessories in a lighter gray and possibly the medium gray-violet.

Have fun with it!

In case you've been invited to the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and don't know what to get them as a gift, consider this canopy bed.  It's a lovely way to create a peaceful retreat.  And it's an easy DYI project: buy some molding, paint it or cover it with fabric, and tack the fabric panels to the backside.

If your tastes are more contemporary than traditional, no reason to abandon the idea of a canopy bed.  Use brushed metal brackets instead of molding, linen curtains, a hip pillow in bold colors, an Asian-inspired breakfast tray, and mid-century black side chair, and voila: a bedroom get-away ready for the thoroughly modern princess.
